In the endless Finnish taiga, between lakes and forests, lives one of the largest and most charismatic European animals, a national symbol of Finland and the neighboring Russian Federation: the brown bear.

"Spending the night in a cabin in the Finnish taiga was an amazing experience. Except for mosquitoes before entering!

Adult bears are animals that give me a sense of strength and power, while cubs are very sweet".

"We were in the observation cabin. At the beginning, nobody believed that I had seen shadows. Daddy, grandpa and our friends thought that I had seen leaves or a tree trunk. But when the bear came up 5 minutes later, they were all silent and a little embarrassed and I started to laugh!!!" (Ekaterina Bee)

(Ekaterina Bee)

"To reach the observation hut we walked for about 1 km, then we entered the hut in the evening and went out in the morning. Sleeping there was beautiful, we saw 9 bears in one night! Although in the north it never gets dark in summer. And then I fell asleep".

(Ekaterina Bee)

"Bears seem slow but can run fastly. In the evening a bear came and rubbed itself on a tree near the cabin. It seemed to be scratching but was marking the territory. Then another bear came and when he saw it he ran away fastly". (Ekaterina Bee)

"The taiga is full of life. Walking in the forest you can see many animals, red squirrels running and jumping from the trees like goblins, woodpecker that tap the trunks and many other birds".

DID YOU KNOW THAT?

The bear is the largest European carnivore and adult males can weigh over 350 kg.

The females are generally smaller and give birth, during the hibernation period, from two to four cubs, which come out of the den in early spring, small and defenseless, and then grow quickly, thanks to the nourishing mother milk.

DID YOU KNOW THAT?

DID YOU KNOW THAT?

Bears have a characteristic large head with small eyes. They have very developed sense of hearing and smell and when they move they tend to walk, constantly sniffing the ground in search of olfactory traces

Above all, the sense of smell is particularly important and the bears let themselves be guided by this sense, while they have a poor developed view.

They are omnivorous animals and thanks to their enormous strength and imposing size they can chase and knock down even very large prey, such as reindeer, deer and moose.
